Cycling for a good cause: Church emphasized environmentally conscious bikers on June 15th!

Bad Ischl, Österreich - On June 15, 2025 it says again: "We cycle to church!" The Diocesan Sport Community Union Raiba Pfandl invites all parishioners and interested parties to leave the car standing and to come to the fair in an environmentally conscious way. The service in the parish church of Pfandl begins at 9:30 a.m., and the participants are invited to appear by bike, scooter or tricycle. The organizers thus set a clear sign of environmental protection and sustainable mobility. So reports meinzirk.at.

The motto of the campaign aims to question people's mobility behavior and to raise awareness of their own locomotion. With participation in this campaign, citizens not only contribute to their own health, but also to improve the environment. Following the service, there will be a blessing of the bicycles, which serves as an expression of appreciation for environmentally friendly locomotion and at the same time a request for an accident -free being.

A look back at past actions

already in the past there have been similar initiatives, including on September 20, 2020, when numerous parishes took part in the "We cycle to the church" campaign. The diocesan transport community (DSG) supported this concern and established the connection between activity, spirituality and climate protection. In many places, intercessions were kept and the preachers focused on the importance of an environmentally conscious lifestyle. In the parish of Steinakirchen even vehicle blessings took place, under the motto that sustainable mobility should become a common focus.

The number of participants was impressive: over 50 people cycled to 15 chapels, with spiritual impulses being given to them on the way. In this way, “cycling to the church” cannot only be experienced as an environmentally friendly tradition, but also as a community experience.

Sustainable mobility in focus

The background of this action can also be viewed in the larger context of the mobility transition in Austria. Sustainable mobility plays a crucial role in transport policy. The Federal Environment Agency emphasizes that traffic services cause enormous environmental pollution, which is why a fundamental change in mobility behavior is necessary. Motorized traffic is cleaner than before, but emissions, noise and resource consumption still contribute to the fact that the environmental association continues to be required. In the area of traffic, a fifth of the entire greenhouse gas emissions are carried out in Germany. Similar conditions can also be observed in Austria, which is why a rethink in traffic and settlement planning is necessary. It is important to enable less traffic, but to increase mobility - an approach that the "We cycle to the church" also represents.

The organizers of the upcoming event emphasize that co -cycling is worthwhile for the environment, health and the coexistence. A joint excursion on the bike is more than just a sporting activity; It is a step in the right direction for a more livable and sustainable future.
