Pilgrimage to Lauffen: Believers celebrate Mai with singing and prayer
What a wonderful day for the pilgrimage to Lauffen! 16 participants from Hallstatt set off on Saturday after Ascension Day to celebrate the last day of the Marien Month in May. The magnificent weather accompanied her from the beginning, while enjoying the wonderful landscape along the Traun and the Soleweg. According to Salzkammergut Rundblick started her excursion with a prayer by Pope Franziskus, which came from his encyclical "Laudato Si"
After prayer, the participants sang the song "Sea stars you greetings" full of fervor before they entered the Weißenbachwirt for a break. These moments together when eating and singing contributed to the festive atmosphere. When the group became visible to the Kalvarienberg of Lauffen, another common song sounded: "Maria you love". This was a special moment that reinforced everything, because the veneration of Mary, as it is practiced in May, has a long tradition that goes back to the Middle Ages, such as pg-kuenzing . As is well known, May is considered the “Marien Month” of the church year and is celebrated with many devotions and celebrations in honor of the mother of Jesus.
festive prayer in the church
Arrived in Lauffen, the pilgrims were warmly welcomed by Pastor Richard Czuryylo. They celebrated a prayer in the “Maria in the Shadow” church, which was characterized by the intimate character of the May devotions. After the prayer, they sang the Laufner Marienlied, in which they asked Maria for their intercession with God - a common practice, which is highly valued in May devotions. According to Archbiocese Cologne , the May service is a word service in honor of Marias, which is often celebrated in chapels. It can be celebrated alone or in the community and offers a lot of space for personal design. After sung together, the pilgrims were invited to coffee, cake and quince schnapps with honey in the parish cafe. Such invitations are not only an integral part of ecclesiastical celebrations, but also strengthen the community among the faithful in their hope and gratitude, which in May underlines as a symbol of vitality and fertility.
The way back to Hallstatt
at 3:27 p.m. the group started the return trip to Hallstatt. Satisfied faces and the feeling of experiencing something special were the companions on the last few meters. Such joint pilgrimage trips not only strengthen faith, but also create lasting memories among the participants.
The May devotions and the month of Maria are an important time of pausing and reflection for many believers. The loving design of the devotions, traditions and the community keeps the veneration of Mary alive. With the knowledge of the deeply rooted tradition of these devotions in Austria, it can only be hoped that they will remain an integral part of the life of faith for future generations.
