New flood protection for Zwettl: groundbreaking for security!

Zwettl an der Rodl, Österreich - On June 2, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new flood retention basin on the Distlbach was set in Zwettl. This project is one of the largest infrastructure measures in the region and represents a significant step in flood protection. Around 350 inhabitants benefit from the protective measures that are finally being realized after decades of planning and several revisions.

The flood protection of the Distlbach proves to be necessary, especially after the devastating flood events in the past, such as around 1987. The implementation of the retention basin will reduce the drain tip at a 100-year flood event (HQ100) from 55 m³/s, which significantly increases the safety standard. The pool will have a retention volume of 660,000 m³ on a flood area of ​​23 hectares, such as bmluk.gv.at

In addition, the implementation of further protective measures, such as the construction of flood protection walls and the demolition and new construction of the state road bridge over the Schauerbach, will contribute to the increase in overall security. A swimmer -controlled throttle device will also ensure that the incoming flood tip is effectively throttled.
