Three schools from the district receive gold for outstanding sports funding!

Zwettl, Österreich - On June 3, 2025, the Zwettl district was able to celebrate another reason to be happy: The middle schools in Schweigger and Abbey Zwettl and the Bhak/Bhas Zwettl were in the Lower Austria state government with the coveted School sports seal of approval in gold awarded. This award is more than just a price - it stood for the excellent work that schools in the field of sports and movement. The two middle schools and the commercial academy were awarded the "most sports and movement-friendly schools in Lower Austria" in their respective categories.

The award is not only honorable, but also comes with prize money of 1,000 euros, which is to be invested in new sports equipment. Bilding Councilor Christiane Teschl Hofmeister and Education Director Karl Fritthum praised the great commitment of schools for sport and emphasized the diverse initiatives and activities, especially in the field of exercise, sports and health. Many saw this praise as confirmation of their hard work.

Director Bernhard Bachofner of the Schweiggers middle school explained how important the multilateral sporting offer was for the school profile and was particularly pleased with the renewed award, which was awarded for the second time in a row. "We have a good hand for promoting sports and movement," says Bachofner. Mag. Martina Dorfinger from the Bhak/Bhas Zwettl also emphasized the high quality and diversity of sporting initiatives at their school.

The Federal Ministry of Education describes the goals of movement and sports promotion in schools as the promotion of motor development stimuli and as compensation for everyday stress. It is an endeavor to train students in various sports and forms of movement in order to provide them with the necessary skills. These initiatives serve not only physical health, but also the holistic development of the children.

Future -oriented sports funding

The school sports seal of approval is awarded in various forms - gold, silver and bronze - at schools that set movement -friendly accents in the education company. Schools of different types can apply for the seal, including elementary schools, middle schools, vocational schools and more. The application deadline for the current school year ranges from June 10th to October 17th, 2025. After this period, late applications will no longer be taken into account, which is important for all schools in order not to get under time pressure.
