Allotment gardens in Wiener Neustadt: Lease extended by 2045!
In Wiener Neustadt there is reason to be happy: The city has extended the lease contracts for all allotment gardens by 2045. This was officially announced on June 9, 2025 in the presence of Mayor Klaus Schneeberger. This step was duly appreciated with a festive festival in the individual gardens. Mayor Schneeberger emphasized the importance of allotment gardens that not only represent green oases in the city, but also promote the coexistence and communication of the residents. "The allotment gardens should not be installed over the next 20 years," said the mayor.

allotment gardens and urban gardening
In the past few years, interest in urban gardens has increased significantly. The trend towards Urban Gardening remains unbroken in both cities and in Wiener Neustadt. This is often the conversion of fallow land into productive community gardens. These gardens offer residents the opportunity to plant self -determination such as rhubarb, salad and tomatoes and also form a community. Mostly these are areas that were previously unused, such as supermarket roofs or vacant plots.
community gardens are not only green retreats, they also promote creativity and social interactions among gardening. In many cities, including in Wiener Neustadt, more and more people come together to actively shape their living environment. These gardens are proof that common efforts can achieve fruitful results. The roots of this movement go back to the 1970s when the first community gardens flourished in US metropolises like New York and Los Angeles.
The extension of the lease contracts in Wiener Neustadt creates a stable basis for the allotments and enables residents to get involved and develop in their gardens for many years. The city thus ensures a valuable contribution to a livable and common city life.
