Fight for the future of the rail infrastructure: Landbauer raises the alarm!

In Lower Austria, a lot is happening in the area of the rail infrastructure, not without reason. On June 6, 2025, a framework plan of the ÖBB was presented, which is supposed to bring a breath of fresh air to the expansion of the regional trains. State Councilor Udo Landbauer, however, calls for renegotiations with the ÖBB to find new solutions for central projects. The agenda includes the electrification of the Traisentalbahn and the two -track expansion between Herzogenburg and St. Pölten, the most important project in the region.

The positive news, however, come with a drop of bitterness: the planned electrification of the Erlauftalbahn was postponed from 2028 to 2033, which Landbauer describes as a "severe blow for the region". This measure is particularly bitter, since the attractiveness of the Puchberger Bahn was also postponed by four years, which is not acceptable for commuters and tourists who want to travel to the snow railway or the future bike park. The Puchberger Bahn has a central role in the connection to the Südbahn axis and the cities to Wiener Neustadt.

investments for rural areas

The state government of Lower Austria is investing heavily in rural areas and wants to advance the expansion of the rail infrastructure. These measures are intended to improve transport offers and increase the quality of life in the region. The application of the ÖBB-Infrastructure AG plays a key role in the "attracting and electrification of the Erlauftalbahn". Evi has already submitted the corresponding applications for a railway permit as well as forest and water law permits.

The planned measures for the route between Pöchlarn and Scheibbs not only include electrification, but also the attractiveness of the traffic stations and the renewal of bridge objects. Insight into the documents was possible until the beginning of May, and interested parties had the opportunity to contribute.

public events and appointments

For everyone who would like to participate in these developments, there was already an oral hearing, which took place on the 4th and if necessary also on June 5, 2025 in the Wieselburg hall of the Wieselburg trade fair. Participants were asked to determine identity by an official photo ID. The responsible project manager is MMag. Eduard Schadinger, under the supervision of the governor of Lower Austria.

Landbauer is certain: "Shifts must not become normal." The citizens of the region are eagerly awaiting developments and hope for a rapid implementation of the projects that are of essential importance for the future of public transport in Lower Austria.
