Thaya celebrates: Birgit Karoh shines as a new youth choir director!
The choir scene in Lower Austria is becoming more and more lively and more diverse. A remarkable success was recently celebrated by Birgit Karoh from Thaya, who successfully completed the course jugend.chor.chor. In a solemn setting, the graduates were able to accept their certificates and performed as a choir during a final event. This ceremony took place as the highlight of the course year 2024/25 in the Choral scene in Lower Austria, which has been acting as a service center for choirs and vocal ensembles since 2005
With hundreds of participants, the choir scene's further training offers have achieved a high priority. The courses Kinder.chor.leiten , Jugend.chor.leiten Master class Chor.leiten Bravura were created in cooperation with the vocal academy Lower Austria and the Education Directorate Lower Austria. These programs are not only intended for experienced choir directors, but are also aimed at pedagogically interested people who want to learn the management of school or class choirs. The courses offer a wide range of content, such as the basics of impact technique, body language for choir directors, trial techniques and the methodology of rehearsing. The expansion of the song repertoire in various styles and choral voice training are also on the curriculum. It is particularly interesting that these training courses are recognized as official events, which makes participation for many educators: course content and new offers
From autumn 2025, the Choral scene Lower Austria will continue its successful courses in a sixth edition. The new courses Kinder.chor.leiten and Jugend.chor September 26, 2025 and ends on May 8, 2026. The target group is primarily people who want to train or further train in the management of child and youth choirs.
gain practical experience
Another aspect of the training series is that the graduates of the master class Chor.leiten Bravura gain valuable practical experience. For example, they were able to conduct choir in the Arnold Schoenberg and work with students from the MDW (University of Music and Performing Art Vienna). This enables the participants to use their knowledge they have learned directly in practice and to develop in the choir director.
Overall, these initiatives provide a breath of fresh air in the choir scene. The Choral scene in Lower Austria shows that it not only takes care of the further development of the choir management, but also about the production of important networks and cooperation within the music scene in Lower Austria. It remains to be seen which musical talents these courses will produce and we are looking forward to the next steps by Birgit Karoh and her colleague: inside!
