Shock in Graz: Amo run demands eleven dead - nationwide state grants!

A terrible killing spree shaked the city of Graz on Tuesday, June 10th. At the Borg Dreifahrasse, the disaster took its course when a 21-year-old former school of the school stormed into the auditorium and fired with two firearms. Zehne people lost their lives, including the alleged perpetrator, who finally found his death himself. This terrible balance shows the killing spree as the heaviest in the history of Austria, as reports the [Meinverzirk] (https://www.meinbezirk.at/niederoesterreich/c-lokales/amoklauf-in-graz- Landes- Folgt-staatstrauer_a72160).

At 10:00 a.m. the first emergency call was received by the Styrian police. The alarm led to the immediate use of special units that worked quickly in the building. The population was urged to avoid the area. Over 300 police officers and 220 Red Cross employees were deployed to provide the injured. For around 200 relatives and 300 pupils, a crisis intervention was set up to support those affected in this fateful hour.

grief and sympathy

The incident has also triggered deep grief in politics. Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) expressed her sympathy for the victims and their families and had the flags at the Lower Austrian country house in St. Pölten put on half mast. She praised the commitment of the police and the Red Cross, which worked tirelessly in this hopeless situation. The NEOS state party chairman Indra Collini also commented and thanked the emergency services. She emphasized the immense stress of these tragic events for those affected.

The grief for the victims is borne by the entire state policy, which also includes the three -day federal mourn of the federal government. Chancellor Christian Stocker and Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen also expressed their concern about the incident. In the meantime, the number of fatalities is at eleven after another affected person died of their serious injuries. Initially there were reports of six female and four male fatalities, including the perpetrator.

weapons law in the focus

Numerous questions raise the killing spree regarding weapons legislation in Austria. As the Kosmo reports, the laws in Austria are in international comparison as quite liberal. The perpetrator had both weapons, a long and a short weapon, legal. In Austria there are around 30 firearms per 100 inhabitants. The country ranks 14 worldwide in the spread of firearms. While a psychological assessment when the application is not mandatory, applicants still have to state a reason for the acquisition of weapons.

On the motif situation of the perpetrator, there is no information so far. A farewell letter was found, but the information contained therein does not provide any information about the motives. The authorities' investigation is in full swing in order to get to the bottom of the background of the tragic incident.

Graz has already experienced tragic incidents in the past, such as an amoking in 2015. However, the killing spree that has now happened has plunged the city and the whole country into a grief that has never been experienced before.
