Scheibbs: Unemployment increases rapidly - do we still stay great?

Unemployment in the Scheibbs district increased by 10.5 percent in May 2025, an increase that is twice as high as the average in Lower Austria. This reports My district . A total of 537 people at the Labor Market Service (AMS) in Scheibbs were registered as unemployed.

The expected unemployment rate of three percent makes Scheibbs only the third smallest value in Lower Austria. Ams director Peter Müllner expressed himself optimistically, but forecast a noticeable relaxation on the job market at the earliest for 2026. This negative development is not completely surprising, since the unemployment figures have been increasing continuously since March 2025 - so the district was still an exception with falling figures at the beginning of the year.

News from the job agency

A ray of hope in the situation is the efforts of the AMS: In May, the AMS consultants visited 73 companies in the district to support them on personnel issues. Since the beginning of the year, 1,054 new vacancies have been registered, of which 968 could already be filled. The AMS service manager, Andrea Brandhofer, emphasized the importance of these positions to stabilize the local labor market.

at the end of May 2025 there were a total of 754 job seekers in the Scheibbs district, of whom 217 are housed in training. Compared to the previous year, the number of unemployed rose by 51, with 291 men and 246 women affected. In addition, 21 young people and 188 people over 50 years are looking for a new job.

statistical mood

With a view to the details of the labor market situation, a differentiated picture is shown. Among the unemployed people are also 117 foreigners and 192 people with compulsory school. The number of vacancies has increased with 488, but there is a decline in the apprenticeships: only 28 apprenticeships are open, which corresponds to a decline by 39. This is regrettable because the number of apprenticeship seekers has increased by 10.

The article by Nations underlines this trend and offers a comprehensive overview of developments in the district. While the AMS is actively working with companies and job seekers, the uncertainty in the Scheibbs district remains noticeable.
