Lower Austria's wine gala: The best drops 2025 excellent!

Festspielhaus St. Pölten, 3100 St. Pölten, Österreich - On Wednesday evening, the Festspielhaus in St. Pölten was the scene of the large wine gala of Lower Austria. The best wines in the state were awarded here in a solemn setting. The chosen ones were chosen in a total of 24 categories, with 900 winegrowers with over 5,500 wines from all eight wine -growing areas applied for the coveted prizes. The wines were tasted by a specialist jury blind for two weeks, and only the 140 best made it to the final. Over 800 wine lovers had the opportunity to personally enjoy the winning wines and discover their favorites.

At the gala, Reinhard Zöchmann, the President of the Lower Austrian Wine Construction Association, was honored as the "winemaker of the year". The well-known moderator Kristina Sprenger as well as the winegrowers Johann and Johann Gisperg and Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner were also awarded. In her speech, the latter emphasized how important wine is for Lower Austria and pulled a parallel to the Danube for the Wachau. This appreciation is also reflected in the size of the wine area. Lower Austria farms a proud 27,000 hectares and maintains almost 5,500 wine -growing companies.

The best wineries at the top

The family winery Johann Gisperg from Teesdorf was awarded the title "Weingut of the Year 2025" and was also able to record two national victories in the categories Zweigelt Riedenweine and Burgundy Red for themselves. But that was not the only award that was awarded that evening. Other top -class wineries also went home with laurels:

  • Family winery Berger: Burgundy white dry, Horn district.
  • winery and Buschenschank Greilinger: green Veltliner classic, district of Hollabrunn.
  • Weingut Steininger: Predikats wines, district of Krems.
  • Weingut Family Wallner: other varieties white and cuvées white dry, Wolkersdorf.
  • wine and sparkling wine cellar Karl Intage: quality sparkling wines, Klosterneuburg.

These awards are not only a sign of the high quality of the Lower Austrian wine, but also confirmation of the excellent work of the winemakers in the country. The winegrowing specialists from Lower Austria are known for their innovative strength and their commitment to quality, which is reflected in the recent successes.

The viticulture in numbers

The relevance of wine production in Austria is also evident in the statistical survey about viticulture. The Weingartengroup survey collects important data on the number of operations, size structure, wine surfaces, grape varieties and the age of the vines every five years to document the current situation in viticulture. From 2026, this survey will be integrated into the agricultural structure survey, which should further improve the data quality. In the future, the surveys on the basis of Invekos will also be implemented to ensure more efficient use of the administrative data in all federal states.

With these awards and developments, Lower Austria remains a hotspot for wine lovers and an important player in the Austrian wine market. The vineyard is therefore not only a celebration of the excellent wine, but also an important event for the entire wine scene in Austria.
