Bird paradise Gries: Rotmilan & Co. in the sight of the conservationists!
Neunkirchen, Deutschland - On June 1, 2025, nature around Neunkirchen at the fire again became the scene for ornithological discoveries. The local group of the BUND Nature Conservation organized a captivating Bird Excursion in the Gries, a charming area, which is characterized by meadows, field landscapes and scattering meadows on May 23. Under the direction of the experienced bird expert Norbert Braun, the participants experienced an educational day full of vocals and wings.
The excursion attracted nature lovers and bird lovers who hoped for exciting encounters with a variety of birds. In addition to songbirds such as rattling grass mosquito, monk grass mosquito and goldammer, impressive birds of prey, especially the impressive red kite, were also spotted. This bird of prey, which impresses with its rust red plumage and a span of up to 165 cm, is one of the largest of its kind in Germany and is particularly at risk in Bavaria. Tragically, his population is threatened by habitat loss and collisions with wind turbines and electricity pylons.
The challenges of red kite
But what really endangers the red kite? According to vogelnatur.de , this magnificent bird not only sees itself exposed to natural enemies such as large birds of prey and floor predators, but also the dark side of modern lifestyle. Habitat destruction, intensive agriculture and urbanization play a crucial role by narrowing breeding sites and food sources. Another risk is wind turbines: The dangerous collisions with the turbines are difficult for the red -military transfer, especially during their distinctive floating flight.
The competition for food that young red kite can put in danger is particularly challenging. Nature conservation projects are therefore indispensable. They focus on the preservation of habitats and the monitoring of the populations, whereby consciousness among the population plays a role that should not be underestimated.
an unforgettable nature experience
The excursion not only offered exciting insights into the world of birds of prey. Another highlight was the vocals of the pirol, a bright yellow male that inspires with his black wings. The ornithological experiences on the Gries could be rounded off with the discovery of a ninth-of-kod couple, known for their striking "Zorro masks". This animal diversity shows the valuable habitat of the gries for birds and various plant species.
The participants finally moved home with the knowledge that their interest and donations can contribute to the preservation of this wonderful nature. The local group of the BUND Nature Conservation thanks everyone present and encourages interested people to contact the group by email or visit their homepage. A strong awareness of nature and bird protection is the key to maintain these unique habitats and to enable bird world to be future generations.
