Guntramsdorf: New funding makes afternoon care affordable!

On June 6, 2025, the municipality of Guntramsdorf took a lively step to relieve its families: Income -dependent support for afternoon care at educational institutions was decided. This measure, which comes into force from the coming school year, has the clear goal of making education and support more affordable for all families. Parents' contributions to afternoon care are funded here socially staggered, with the support between 10 and 40 percent of the costs depending on the family income and number of children. The unanimous decision of the local council shows that the common well -being of the citizens is very popular and that these changes are now also taken into account with a specific measure.

The funding is aimed particularly at single parents and households with low incomes. "It is important that education is accessible to everyone," emphasizes Mayor Robert Weber (SPÖ). The necessary support for childcare offers is clearly adapted to the poverty risk threshold according to statistics Austria. For example, a single mother with two children and a monthly income of less than EUR 2,515 receives a generous 40 percent funding. A family of four with two children and an income of less than 3,772 euros can also be delighted, as they also benefit from the maximum funding.

a comprehensive educational offer

Guntramsdorf not only made a name for itself with this funding, but also offers a wide range of education. The municipality has a well -developed educational infrastructure: it includes a crèche, five kindergartens, two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school. In view of the grown needs in the region, it is not surprising that the extension of the kindergarten in Neu-Guntramsdorf is also planned. Here the number of groups is increased from three to six, so that after completion, a total of 18 kindergarten groups will be available in five facilities.

These efforts, coupled with the newly introduced funding, are part of a larger municipal overall concept for social security and family -friendly framework conditions. A fair education and the creation of equal opportunities for all children, regardless of their social origin, are central concerns of this initiative. At a time when increasing cost of living and the associated challenges are clearly noticeable, especially for families weaker, this measure can be regarded as a ray of hope. Guntramsdorf thus shows how local politics can actively help to reduce social hurdles and to improve the educational opportunities for all children.

The latest developments in Guntramsdorf are also in the context of a broader social discussion about educational justice, which is influenced in many countries, including in Germany, through different factors. Historically speaking, educational justice has been aimed again and again over the decades, and in Austria, too, such funding is taken in the right direction. Educational opportunities must not depend on the wallet - Guntramsdorf goes consistently and determined.

With such powerful measures, the community ensures that all children have the same chances of high -quality education, regardless of the family background they come. This focus on equal opportunities in education is not only a profit for families, but also for the entire community. 5min.at reports on this topic in detail. This perspective is also supported by the initiative of the OTS social fairness. Likewise, the question of equal opportunities and the social framework in education are a central focus of the discussion, as well as regional-bildung.de
