Baroque days Melk: Maria moves excited with Bach sounds!

The international baroque days of Melk were opened on Friday evening, and that with a musical delicacies! The ceremonial opening ceremony in the collegiate church attracted numerous music lovers and marked the beginning of a festival that is under the promising motto "Maria moves ...". Director Michael Schade has interpreted the archetypin of the Biblical Maria as a concise figure with revolutionary potential, which is an inspiring basic idea for the upcoming events.

The opening event delighted the audience with two moving settings of the "Magnificat" - on the one hand by Johann Sebastian Bach and on the other hand by his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Under the direction of Pablo Heras-Casado, the Concentus Musicus and the Collegium Vocale 1704 from Prague conducted and once again showed that baroque music lost none of its fascination in the 21st century. The impressive performance was also transferred live from Ö1, while TV broadcast is planned on ORF III on June 8 at 8:15 p.m. and on June 15th at 11.20 a.m.

a musical discovery

Johann Sebastian Bach's "Magnificat" is the cornerstone of the baroque repertoire and is always a highlight with its radiant character. Originally composed in 1723, it gives the festivities a festive framework. Carls Philipp Emanuel Bach's version, which is less often performed, has now put a shame in the spotlight. In an impressive ensemble with soloparts by Nuria Rial (soprano), Shira Patchornik (soprano), Sophie Harmsen (old), Michael Schade (tenor) and Johannes Kammler (bass), the performance became an unforgettable experience.

It was a real pleasure for the listeners to experience the precision and emotion that showed Heras-Casado and the musicians. The concert test not only brought about the time of the Baroque life, but also ensured that the audience was captivated.

a versatile program

The baroque days last until Whit Monday and offer an extensive program. A special highlight will be the picnic concert "Leyersederin 1761" in the abbey park, while a re-settlement of the Melker Marienlied by Johannes Schachtner is also on the scene. The festival finds its crowning conclusion on Whit Monday with the Hofkapelle Munich and mezzo -soprano Olivia Vermeulen under the title "Salve Regina!". Not only works by Ferrandini, Monteverdi and Vivaldi are listed here, but also compositions by beavers, Scarlatti and Handel.

A CD recording of the opening concert will appear at the German gramophone in 2026, which is an additional joy for the baroque music scene. The preparation and spread of this great music is essential to make the treasures of the Baroque accessible to future generations.

The international baroque days Melk are therefore an absolute mandatory date for die -hard baroque lovers and newcomers. If you haven't decided yet, you should mark the appointments in the calendar and use the unique opportunity to discover musical discovery!
