As is about women in the ÖVP throughout the country, the 23rd ordinary Bundestag of the ÖVP women took place in Gamlitz on May 17, 2025. Juliane Bogner-Strauß was confirmed with 97.2 percent as the Federal Leader, while Silke Dammerer, the state chairwoman of the Lower Austrians, was elected as the Federal League deputy with impressive 99.3 percent. This high consent not only signals confidence in the two leaders, but also illustrates the relevance of women's policy in Austria.
The focus of women's policy
In her speech, Bogner-Strauß emphasized the importance of freedom of choice, equal opportunities and the compatibility of family and work. These topics are central to the ÖVP women and form the basis of their political agenda. "This is not only a responsibility, but also an opportunity to actively shape our position," said Dammerer about her choice. The unmistakable support of the delegates from various federal states, especially from Lower Austria, speaks for the cohesion and the common goals within the party. But what about equality between genders in Austria? A new publication published by the Federal Chancellery offers answers. In “Equality in Austria - Numbers, Data and Facts”, not only challenges, but also progress in various dimensions of equality. Education, socio -economic situation as well as the distribution of paid and unpaid work are just a few of the areas that are illuminated in the publication. It is available as a download and should be made accessible as possible to raise awareness of these important topics.
At the end of the day, it becomes clear that the women in the ÖVP are strong and also show that they are ready to play an active role in society. These are impulses that can also affect other areas of society!
