Insolvency shock in Ternitz: E-shop manufacturer Kostad before bankruptcy!

The Kostad Steuerungsbau GmbH, a company that produces charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and offers services, has applied for a renovation process without self-administration at the Wiener Neustadt regional court. This decision was announced on May 30, 2025. The company's production site is located in Ternitz in the Neunkirchen district, and up to 150 creditors and 46 employees are affected. The liabilities amount to around 18.5 million euros, which indicates a problematic financial situation. The causes of bankruptcy are the expiry of state grants in 2024 and a subsequent collapse on the order, which has severely affected the company activities, reports the Kurier .

As part of the renovation efforts, the employee status has been reduced from 80 to 46 people since March 2024. Currently only 25 workers and 21 employees are still working, but wages and salaries were paid in full up to and including March 2025. In order to successfully implement the renovation, the company plans to win an investor. The first preliminary talks have already been led. Commerce is offered a rate of 20 percent within two years to facilitate the repayment process.

Further information on future offers of securities will be provided in accordance with the applicable capital market law requirements.

In view of the challenges that manufacturers of e-charging infrastructure face, the market for electromobility and alternative drives in Europe are still undisputed. According to an analysis of deloitte , the automotive industry will experience in-depth changes by 2030. Alternative drives will increasingly replace combustion engines, while hybrid drives will play a role in the transition period. These developments are important for companies like Kostad who have to assert themselves in a dynamic market environment.

COVID-19 pandemic has also significantly influenced the plans to promote electromobility. Despite various state funding measures, it can be seen that the current framework conditions and help are not sufficient to achieve the goals set. The original goal of the Federal Government to allow 10 million vehicles with alternative drives by 2030 could be missed due to the changed framework conditions and market economy pressure.
