Bridge release in Paulsdorf: Detours belong to the past!

residents and day tourists in Dippoldiswalde, especially in the Paulsdorf district, can breathe a sigh of relief: after over a year of diversions and restrictions, the Malter dam is released again. On Wednesday, the renovated Lämmergrund Bridge including the new roundabout in Paulsdorf was ceremoniously inaugurated. The event took place despite rainy weather, the traffic was released in the afternoon around 3 p.m. Thanks to these repair measures, drivers are now possible to use the route around the dam, which was previously blocked due to the bridge closure, how Sächsische.de reports.

The Lämmer Grundbrücke, originally built in 1912, showed considerable damage that made renovation absolutely necessary. This included damage to caps, walls, seals and railings. However, the renovation work that started on April 22, 2024 has not yet been completed, as can be seen from the current information. Remaining work, including the application of road markings and the assembly of signs, should be completed by June 2024.

Community project for traffic safety

These comprehensive repair measures were carried out as a joint project between the city of Dippoldiswalde and the Pirna district office. For the construction of the new roundabout, the Ballastrachenstrasse (K9010) and Thomas-Müntzer-Straße (K9013) were converted to improve traffic safety and create a safe space for pedestrians. The city's construction and the renewal of the street lighting are also carried by the city.

The total cost of the renovation amounts to around 2.3 million euros, of which around one million euros come from the district's own funds. The project was also financed by means of the Local Budget 2024 of the Free State of Saxony. Despite the positive results, there was criticism of the longer construction period of residents and city councilors. For compensation, the executive company Bistra-Bau donated 1,000 euros to the Paulsdorf local council and 500 euros to the Weißeritztal-Erbnis-GmbH. In addition, a beach volleyball court with 40 tons of sand was supported.

other bridge projects in Dippoldiswalde

In addition to the Lämmer Grundbrücke, there are other bridge repair measures on the agenda in Dippoldiswalde. Two bridges in the course of the B 170 urgently need renovation work. These measures include the repair of a bridge over the Red Weißeritz and a bridge structure via the Planberg passage path. The planned start of the work is targeted for March 3, 2023, depending on the weather conditions. The expected completion is expected for the end of August. During the work, road users have to expect mutual restrictions and traffic light regulations. The total costs for this project are around 770,000 euros and are financed by the Federal Republic of Germany, as reported by the Landratsamt Pirna.

In view of Germany's extensive bridge population, which includes 40,100 buildings in the federal highway network, the repair and modernization of bridges is an important topic. This is increasingly being treated, as the Federal Ministry of Transport. Innovative construction methods and effective traffic management should minimize the effects on traffic during these projects.
