Allgäu becomes a mountain bike paradise: new trails for adventure!

The Allgäu, known for its picturesque Alpine landscapes, attracts not only hikers, but also mountain bikers. But the search for suitable trails was difficult for cyclists in the German Alpine region for a long time. Eric Haufe, owner of the tour operator Ride Alpine Trail from Sonthofen, has set itself the task of changing this situation. Together with like -minded people, he founded the “Mountainbike Allgäu e. V.” association to create official trails. In recent years, the association has intensively worked on collecting funding, developing concepts and looking for dialogue with foresters and nature conservation authorities.

In cooperation with the local authorities, four new trails have now emerged: the Hinanger-Steig trails near Sonthofen are a real highlight for mountain bikers. Max Schumann, an experienced enduro driver from the region and club member, praises the high construction quality of the trails, which were designed with great attention to detail. In addition, the Halde Trails were opened in Wildpoldsried near Kempten, which convince with a three-kilometer long, signposted round.

Neuland-Trail and other project ideas

A very special focus is on the Neuland Trail on the Gschwender Horn near Immenstadt, which is currently in progress. The lower section has already been completed, while the upper enduro section on the summit cross will begin at an altitude of 1450 meters. Overall, the new territory will offer an impressive length of 10.9 kilometers and will overcome 580 meters of altitude. The website mtballgaeu.de is also available for mountain bikers.

But that's not all that the Allgäu has to offer. The region offers a variety of trails that are categorized according to difficulty levels. There is something for everyone from beginner routes to demanding descents. The Freeride Today suggests using the Allgäu MTB Trail-Map in order to find its way around this extensive trail landscape. These cards not only help with orientation, but also provide an overview of the different levels of difficulty. The trails are divided into five levels of difficulty: green for very light, blue for light, red for medium heavy, black for heavy and pink for very heavy.

The best trails at a glance

In this context, some trails are particularly emphasized:

  • Füssen: Tegelberg Trail - a technically demanding trail with a view of Neuschwanstein Castle.
  • Nesselwang: Alpspitz and Edelsberg - suitable for all skill levels, with exciting passages and attractive views.
  • Burgberg: Grünten-Trail -a challenge for experienced mountain bikers, with steep descents.
  • Sonthofen: Tiefenbacher Eck and Baoleskopf - varied trails with technical demands.
  • Bad Hindelang: Iseler -Alpine MTB routes with demanding challenges.

The trails not only attract passionate mountain bikers, but also promote local tourism. It is clear that the efforts of the association and the regional partner bear the first fruits, and the Allgäu will soon establish itself as a real mecca for mountain bikers. If that is no reason to swing on the bike, we don't know what to do!
