Swimming club Gmünd shines: Nine medals at German Masters!

The swimming club Gmünd made an impressive appearance at the German Masters Championships in Dresden. In the traditional event, which took place in the swimming sports complex on Freiberger Platz, the six -member team was able to win a total of nine medals, including two gold medals. As the Remszeitung Aubele and the 4 × 50 meter layer relay in the age group 280 (AK280) gold.

But that's not all: The Gmünder swimmers were able to look forward to further success. In the 4 × 50 meter freestyle relay, they took second place behind the hosts UP TU Dresden with a time of 2: 11.74 minutes, which achieved a time of 2: 09.12 minutes. In the layer relay, however, the Gmünder Team clearly won the competition: the season won with a time of 2: 26.35 minutes ahead of the USV TU Dresden and SSG Saar Max Ritter. A great performance, even if the German record was only missed by 0.07 seconds.

Roland Aubele once again showed up in impressive form and won in the AK80 over 50 meters freestyle in 36.87 seconds. He also secured a silver medal over 50 meters of butterfly with a time of 48.93 seconds. Winfried Hofele (AK75) and Roland Wendel (AK65) rounded off the successes: Hofele won silver over 200 meters freestyle and Wendel Bronze over 50 meters freestyle. In order to increase the medal yield, Ulrich Fischer (AK60) could even win a bronze medal over 100 meters of butterfly. Manuela Hieber, the only woman in the Gmünder Team, reached several good placements in the AK50 and took sixth place over 50 meters and 100 meters back.

While the German championship was already a great success, the Gmünd swimmers could look back on the excellent performance at the Baden-Württemberg Masters Championships in Karlsruhe, where they were able to win a total of 16 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze medals. What a balance sheet! Here Roland Aubele also demonstrated his talent by getting gold in the 50 meter distance both in the butterfly and freestyle. Winfried Hofele contributed gold in 200 meters freestyle, 100 meters back and 50 meters freestyle.

The fact that the championships were also an experience for the audience is undisputed. The organizers offered a rich food in the swimming sports complex. The swimmers and visitors were able to enjoy pre -ordered lunch, which included noodles with a vegetarian bolognese.
