Climate protection for the youngest: children in the clear! Climate camp active!

The fifth "Klar! Climate Camp Bistrica" took place in the Bistrica factory yard in Feistritz ob Bleiburg, which is intended to raise awareness among children and their families about the issue of climate change. Under the motto: “Everything I do has an influence on others - everything that others do also has to do with me,” 20 young participants between the ages of 8 and 13 from Feistritz ob Bleiburg, Globasnitz, Bleiburg and Eberndorf took part in the camp. A central theme was “Water – our basis of life”, which is particularly relevant given the increasing challenges posed by climate change. My district reports that...

The camp not only offers exciting workshops, but also the opportunity to get in direct contact with experts. The children learned how water cycles work and what connections exist between climate change and phenomena such as drought and storms. The discussions ranged from resource-saving use of water to the role of water in our habitats and food systems. Climate change has a direct impact on the water cycle and leads to more intense rainfall and increased dry seasons in many regions worldwide. DW explains that...

Water is the basis of life

The water cycle plays a central role in our environment. Water moves through our earth in different states and has a direct influence on the climate. Of global water supplies, only about 3% is freshwater, with most stored in ice or deep in the ground. Climate change means that evaporation is increasing and more water vapor is released into the atmosphere. This is not only causing more extreme weather events, but also increasing water shortages in many areas. The camp not only introduced the young participants to the basics of water management, but also made them aware of the challenges of the future. The Climate Atlas highlights that…

At the end of the camp there was a final event where the children were able to present their newly acquired knowledge and skills. The children's concert with the musicians Natascha Konzilia and Verena Hartlieb in particular provided a festive highlight to the event. Representatives of the camp's supporters were present, including local councilor Doris-Grit Schwarz and state parliament member Stefan Sandriesser, underlining the local commitment to environmental education.

Events like the “Klar! Climate Camp Bistrica” not only raise awareness of the environment, but also lay the foundation for a sustainable life. The personal influence of each individual becomes clear, and the hope for a better future is strengthened by the commitment of the children and their families.
