Burglary crisis in the Völkermarkt district: Police catch 16-year-old perpetrator!
Investigations against burglars are progressing in the Völkermarkt district. The police have solved several attempted and completed burglaries. A 16-year-old teenager is suspected of being responsible for the crimes and has been reported to the Klagenfurt public prosecutor's office, reports My district.
The first series of burglaries began on September 11, 2025, when an unknown person tried to break into a single-family home. The 65-year-old homeowner surprised the perpetrator, who fled without any stolen goods. Just half an hour later, around 2:45 p.m., the burglar broke into a mobile home at a campsite, where he was stopped by a 63-year-old vacationer. Here too, the perpetrator remained empty-handed. The material damage amounts to several hundred euros.
Police investigations
A third incident occurred on September 28, 2025, when a neighbor noticed an unknown man entering a garage and trying to make himself comfortable in a car. The neighbor informed the police, but the search was initially unsuccessful. Thanks to intensive investigations by the criminal investigation groups at the St. Kanzian am Klopeiner See and Ferlach police stations, the 16-year-old suspect was finally identified and clearly assigned to the crimes.
Burglaries throughout the district
However, the incidents in the Völkermarkt are not the only ones. There were also a number of break-ins in Wolfsberg between the beginning of February and the end of March 2025. The perpetrators often pushed open the sliding glass doors and stole mainly luxury items and food. Police identified several suspects: an 18-year-old Slovenian, a 16-year-old Syrian and an 18-year-old Iraqi, like Small newspaper reported. The total damage amounts to a higher four-digit euro amount. The Klagenfurt public prosecutor's office has issued a complaint against the suspects who are at large.
The police are working tirelessly to increase the public's sense of security and prevent further break-ins. With the investigation, they are well on the way to putting the perpetrators behind bars. After all, security is an issue that affects everyone.
