District championship title 2025: Völkermarkt's fire brigade cheers for successes

On Saturday, June 1, 2025, an exciting performance competition for volunteer fire brigades took place in the Pustritz sports center in the Völkermarkt district. On this day, 35 competition groups competed to show their best performance in the categories bronze A, bronze B, silver A and in the team performance competition. The district champions of the individual categories will be represented at the national championship on June 28th in meetings on Lake Ossiacher. District competition officer Stefan Brodnig said extremely positively after the competitions and described the day as "very successful".

The fire brigades were also active in Klagenfurt. On May 24, 2025, a district performance competition took place there, which brought together the volunteer fire brigades from Klagenfurt-Stadt and Klagenfurt-Land. The teams showed their skills in the fire -fighting attack and relay race. The aim was to master the course as quickly as possible and without errors. The best groups then qualified for the state performance competition -a prestigious title that motivates the firefighters and women to get better and better.

The fire service competitions have a long tradition in Austria and are not only sporting challenges, but also a valuable exercise in fire work. They offer the participants the opportunity to test their skills and optimally prepare for the emergency. Such competitions have been taking place since 1925, which have long since gained a special place in the fire brigade culture. As in many other federal states, sporting upgrading and teamwork is the main concern of these competitions in Carinthia.

Another highlight will take place next year, because handles will be the venue for the state championships of the Carinthian fire brigades in 2026. This means that the region remains a center for fire brigade competitions and promotes the feeling of togetherness among the volunteer firefighters.
