Heavy motorcycle accident on B98: Drivers with injuries to the hospital!

Millstätterstraße B98, 9871 Feld am See, Österreich - Yesterday on July 13th at 1:55 p.m. on Millstätterstraße B98, Höhe Wiesen in the municipality of Feld am See, a serious motorcycle accident. A 51-year-old motorcyclist from the Villach district overtook a car, while a 20-year-old man from the Spittal district overtook another car in the opposite direction. There was a collision by car, which was directed by a 62-year-old woman from Villach. The motorcyclist fell and suffered injuries of an indefinite degree that required quick medical care. After a first aid with the rescue helicopter, he was flown to the Villach State Hospital, while the other participants were luckily unharmed. Alkomatent tests showed negative values for everyone involved, and considerable damage to property occurred on the vehicles. The fire brigade Feld am See was deployed with two vehicles and ten emergency services, as did the Red Cross.

But this accident is also a great deal of problems: the increasing number of motorcycle accidents in Austria. In the first half of 2023, 58 motorcyclists were already fatal, which is 22 percent of all traffic fatalities. The accident rises, especially in the hot months, from June to August, because numerous statistics show that motorcycling is associated with high risk. The press reports that eight out of ten fatal accidents are frontal collisions or solo accidents. There are frequent causes.

motorcycling - a high risk

Another accident that happened shortly before that in the field on the lake took place on July 11th in the municipality of Großebersdorf in Lower Austria. A 42-year-old motorcyclist apparently overestimated his driving skills without steering authorization when he overtook several cars and then lost control of his vehicle. He suffered serious injuries and also had to be flown to a hospital with the rescue helicopter. Such incidents illustrate how important a responsible driving style is to avoid accidents.

The alarming statistics and reports raise questions. Are the motorcyclists trained well enough? How can we do prevention? 5min emphasizes that the ÖAMTC describes the motorcycle as the means of transport at the highest risk. It will be necessary for both drivers and authorities to take measures to increase safety on the streets. Defensive driving style and a good knack in dealing with the vehicle could help many motorcyclists to get through the season accident -free.

It is time to raise awareness of this problem and to bring about a rethink among all road users. Not only for your own security, but also for those of the others who are on the road with us.
