Spittal elementary school briefly missed the national victory at Security Olympiad!

Spittal an der Drau, Österreich - A gripping final! The West Spittal elementary school took second place in Klagenfurt at the state finals of the children's security Olympics (KSO). Only two points were missing for the highest coveted award "Safest elementary school in Carinthia 2025", which was won this year by the VS 7 Landskron 4C from Villach. This achieved impressive 355 points, while the Spittaler and Reichenau classes each came to 353 points. Around 360 elementary school children from all Carinthian districts were there and showed full commitment during the various competitive disciplines.

The Olympics is not only a competition, but also an important event that gives children in a playful way to safety -relevant knowledge. The organizers such as the Carinthian Civil Protection Association, the Carinthia Education Directorate and the AUVA significantly contribute to this. Child safety moderator Harald Wieser welcomed numerous guests of honor, including LH Peter Kaiser and Christoph Staudacher, the 2nd President of the Carinthian state parliament. "It is crucial to strengthen security awareness at a young age," emphasized Wieser.

educational disciplines

The competition included four exciting disciplines: the fast rater round, the cycling competition, the extinguishing competition and the hazardous fabric cube puzzle. These formed the participants not only in theory, but above all in practical exercises. During the practical exercises, rules of conduct and security measures were conveyed for everyday life that help the children react correctly in emergency situations.

The child security Olympics have been taking place annually since the 1990s and now has more than 70,000 children involved from all over Carinthia. "The Olympiad is a great format to learn how to use emergency situations, and we are happy about the great commitment of the children," said Vice Mayor Ronald Rabitsch, who, together with City Councilor Franz Petritz, underlined the importance of the project.

Invitation to participate

The schools from the Spittal district are invited to take part in the upcoming district competitions and qualify for the next issue of the state final. This means that the fun of learning and strengthening security awareness is still in the foreground. Children learn through a playful approach how important it is to be able to protect themselves and others in dangerous situations.

The child security Olympiad will continue to remain an important event in the future that not only arouses competitive spirit, but above all also promotes security and responsibility. In 2025, the event will once again bring many kindergarten kids together with the aim of standing at the top of the podium.
