Austria cycles records: 14,977 participants and new flower meadows!

As part of this year's “ÖBB bee and flower cycling”, cyclists have set a record across Austria. On June 6, 2025, the campaign ends with impressive 14,977 participants, the total of 1,330,534 kilometers. This value exceeds the previous year's record by almost 600,000 kilometers and shows that interest in cycling is growing continuously. This is also the result of the climate -political background of the initiative, which is supported together with the Ministry of Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure. [Press ÖBB] (https://presse-oebb.at/news-obb-und-oesterreich-mit-neuem-straßen-zeimenkord-in-Kaernten-und-der-Steiermark-zur-5-oeb-bluehwiese?id=218756&menueid=27027&l= German) reports that the original goal) 700,000 collected kilometers by the great performance of the cyclists: was clearly exceeded on the inside. The number of participants from Carinthia and Styria is particularly noteworthy: with 904 cyclists: Inside, these federal states can record a significant increase in comparison to the previous year.

Die Radler: Inside in Carinthia and Styria, a total of 110,580 kilometers have covered, more than twice as many as 2024. Thus, almost ten percent of all the kilometers are kilometers from these two federal states. The ÖBB celebrates success with the opening of a new 1,400 m² green area at Altach station. This natural environment is not only a new Highlight for the communities, but also contributes to the preservation of regional biodiversity.

wild bees and their meaning

As part of the campaign, the important role of bees and other insects is also pointed out. In Europe, almost every tenth wild bee species is threatened with extinction. These insects are irreplaceable for the pollination of plants and are therefore crucial for the preservation of many ecosystems. Radelt has launched the initiative to draw attention to the importance of biodiversity with a common goal of 700,000 scratched kilometers and at the same time to actively support climate protection.

Another positive aspect of the campaign is the contribution to CO2 reduction. Overall, more than 132 tons of CO2 could be saved by cycling. These figures clarify that the common movement for a greener future is not only fun, but also makes sense.

rewards and future projects

As a thank you for the commitment of the participants, various prizes were raffled off, including vouchers for trips and an innovative vello faltrad with ÖBB branding. The campaign took place from May 29 to June 5, 2025, with the possibility of kilometer recording until the end of September. Interested private individuals and groups are encouraged to continue to participate and collect their kilometers.

The sustainability and promotion of biological diversity are at the center of the strategy of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, which also includes funding for bee -friendly management. The project not only promotes cycling traffic, but also ensures a contribution to the preservation of our valuable insect populations, which are essential for agriculture and food security. In the words of the [BMEL] (https://www.bmel.de/de/themen/landwirtschaft/arten Vieldalt/insekten-biological- Vielml), the preservation of biodiversity is crucial to support the ecosystem services such as pollination and soil fertility.

The successful cycling and the establishment of natural areas are not only a reason to be happy, but also an important step in the right direction for climate protection and to secure our environment.
