Ecumenical brochure on Carinthia's pulpit and pulpit altar!

In the shimmering Alpine Adria room, a new work has been seen: the brochure "Pulpits and Chancellor in Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli" was recently published and caused a sensation. For the first time in an ecumenical perspective, she is devoting herself to the artistic pulpit and pulpit altar, which shape the churches in this region. In the end, a bridge is beaten between the different Christian communities, which makes the brochure particularly interesting. According to katholisch.at includes the performance of 35 pulpit and 6 from Catholic and 6 from evangelical Churches, as well as one from a Greek Orthodox Church.

The official presentation took place in the Eggen Eggen on Kraigerberg, where high -ranking guests such as diocesan bishop Josef Marketz and superintendent Manfred Sauer came together. Both emphasize the diversity and wealth of the design of this liturgical furniture, which prevailed in the Venetian and rural style until the 20th century. The bishop praised the stylistic width that makes the Alpine Adria room so unique. He thanked superintendent Sauer especially for ecumenical coexistence in Carinthia.

The peculiarity of the pulpit and pulpit altars is not only in their artistic value, but also in their historical importance. Many of these interventions in church building reject a long tradition. Chancellors, often increased and artistically designed, primarily served to proclaim. Chancellor, in turn, which has been created to an increased extent since the second half of the 18th century, are a real eye -catcher of the Protestant tradition. Superintendent Sauer said: "Chancellor is a special feature of the Protestant church building until the 19th century."

In the new brochure, there are not only views from Carinthia, but also impressive examples from Slovenia and Friuli. Particularly noteworthy is the pulpit of the Villach parish church of St. Jakob from the Protestant Renaissance. In addition, the historical tolerance bed house in Fresach is mentioned as a formative pulpit altar, the importance of which cannot be assessed in the region. In view of this diversity, the work is a fascinating overview of styles from around 900 years, from Romanesque to baroque influences.

Free availability and further information

The brochure comprises 96 pages, including a glossary and an overview map to navigate readers through the diverse pulpit and pulpit altars. It is available for free in the parishes, in the church shop of the Gurk diocese and online. This initiative is not only a profit for those interested in art and culture, but also a step to strengthen the inter-confessional dialogue in Carinthia.

In other regions, such as southern Lower Saxony, pulpit altars have also found their place. There are a good 109 documented pulpit altars, which became more and more popular from the 17th century, as can be seen on freies-verlagshaus.de . Pilot projects raise the pulpitals of the region and show how these forms are shaped in other regions of German-speaking countries such as in Hesse, Saxony or Brandenburg, such as the Wikipedia page Wikipedia shown.

In summary, it can be said that the new brochure not only preserves the local history, but also contributes to an interesting cultural exchange and mutual understanding among the various beliefs in Carinthia.
