A serious motorcycle accident occurred on Saturday, September 27, 2025, on the L85 in the Klagenfurt-Land district. At around 4:50 p.m., an 18-year-old motorcyclist from the region lost control of his vehicle in a right-hand bend. As a result, he fell and his motorcycle slipped into the oncoming lane, where it collided with an oncoming car driven by a 54-year-old from the Spittal an der Drau district. The motorcycle got stuck under the car and was dragged for several meters, while the driver of the motorcycle was thrown to the ground in front of the vehicle of a 50-year-old driver from Graz.
Luckily, the 50-year-old was able to avoid another collision by braking quickly. He and the passengers in the first car were uninjured in the incident. The young motorcyclist, however, suffered injuries of an unspecified degree. After initial treatment, he was taken to the Klagenfurt Clinic in the C11 rescue helicopter. The accident resulted in the motorcycle being a total loss, and the 54-year-old's car also suffered significant damage. Both vehicles had to be towed.
Traffic disruptions after the accident
The L85 was closed to all traffic for around 20 minutes during the first aid, causing significant disruption. The Völkermarkt road maintenance department took over the clean-up work. The cause of the accident is currently being investigated, but the incident once again shows the dangers of riding a motorcycle, especially in curved areas.
