Washing machine scandal in Carinthia: Entrepreneur cheated on a cooperative for 600,000 euros!

Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, Österreich - A far -reaching fraud is shaken by the housing cooperative “My Home” in Carinthia. A 55-year-old Villacher is charged with the State Court of Klagenfurt for severe commercial fraud, false evidence statement and defamation. The public prosecutor has brought the lawsuit, and the man is considered innocent until a final decision. It is about a fraud of around 600,000 euros, which was committed to various “home” residential complexes by the delivery of washing machines and tumble dryers. At first everything seemed okay: invoices were paid, but the devices did not appear or were far cheaper than specified.

When a property manager noticed that a new washing machine should be delivered in a certain place, but it had remained empty, the case got rolling. This was the trigger to question the inaccurate bills and the associated irregularities. "Heimat" boss Helmut Kusterik regrets the confidence in the Villacher: "We trusted him for 40 years, and that was a mistake," he explains. The billing of the invoices apparently took place without a thorough examination.

a strong network of deception

As reported by the Krone, the large supplier in Carinthia has also informed about years of fraud. A well -organized network ensured that tenants who drew suspected were rejected with their questions. The extent of the fraud not only affects incorrectly offset devices, but also indicates a comprehensive system of corruption within the cooperative structures. In order to offer the affected tenants support, a hotline was founded in which information is treated confidentially.

In view of these incidents, it becomes clear that the topic of bribery and corruption not only weakens individual companies, but also the entire economy and society. According to KPMG, the struggle against corruption is increasingly challenging for companies, while more and more governments are being tightened their regulations in order to act against illegal flows of money. A long -term solution requires cooperation between the public and the private sector.

The accused has stood the fraud and would like to make up for the damaged damage. At the same time, his lawyer criticizes the negligent auditing of the "home". In this case, the public prosecutor has hired the proceedings against the accused's wife and a former business partner due to a lack of a contribution. It remains to be seen how the legally binding decision will be in this scandalous case and which teachings can be drawn from this incident.
