Klagenfurt steps into the pedals: bike -friendly future for Carinthia!
In the picturesque city of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, a lot is happening for cycling enthusiasts! As the first partner destination of VelonTour In Carinthia, an impressive share of 38% of vacationers already uses the bike, and is therefore significantly above the Carinthian average of 25%. This marks the first step on the way to establishing the city as a bicycle paradise and shows that Klagenfurt has experienced a continuous increase in bicycle use in the past five years, which is also due to the constant improvements in the cycling infrastructure.
"Velontour" not only selected Klagenfurt as a partner region, but also focuses on the development of "Bike Friendly Hotel Food". Eight hotels such as the Wörthersee Resort and Sandwirth Seepark have already adapted to the bike -friendly criteria, while two other companies are on the brink. This means that cyclists in Klagenfurt are in good hands. A large number of guided bike tours that are offered every Friday and Saturday until June 28, 2025 free of charge with the Wörthersee Plus Card, round off the offer.
diverse bike options
Klagenfurt not only offers something for the relaxed cyclist! The city is surrounded by breathtaking lake and mountain landscapes and forms the perfect starting point for bike tours in Carinthia. For sporty cyclists, there are also challenges such as the mountain stages in the Karawanken or exciting single trails on the Falkenberg. With the Wörthersee Plus Card you can also use guided tours and a bus wheel shuttle to Friesach to make cycling even more attractive.
master plan for cycling mobility
In order to expand Carinthia into a flagship for cyclists, the state councils Martin Gruber and Sebastian Schuschnig presented the 2025 master plan. The aim of the plan is to implement over 140 measures in everyday life, tourism and infrastructure. Among other things, bike paths to all Carinthian bathing lakes, important gaps in the cycle path network and the introduction of cycling are.
The annual budget for the new construction and maintenance of the cycle paths has been set to 2.5 million euros for the next few years. This is intended to further improve the conditions for cyclists and create a uniform signage system. In order to promote the integration of wheel and public transport, cooperation with the ÖBB is also sought. A digital app as a route planner is also planned to maximize the possibilities for cyclists.
