A lot is happening in Klagenfurt: Hubert Wallner, the well-known fish chef, has brought a breath of fresh air into the city with his new gastronomic vision. On September 15, 2025, he opened two new restaurants: “Marie” and “George”. These are located diagonally opposite the popular rooftop bar 19Null7 and are intended not only to offer culinary highlights, but also to emphasize the connection between the old town and Lake Wörthersee. Wallner would like to secure permanent jobs for his employees even in the off-season, which is often a challenge in the catering industry.

“Marie” is a true gem for anyone who wants to enjoy the panoramic view over Klagenfurt and the Alps. The dishes are offered with a clear focus on fresh ingredients and the prices are calculated accommodatingly. For example, there is broccoli with mayo and ponzu for 14.90 euros and char on sweet potatoes with wild herb salad for 26.90 euros. “Marie” opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., while the week ends with a day of rest on Sunday and Monday.

“George” – A meeting place for coffee lovers

“George”, on the other hand, is a trendy cafe bar that offers excellent coffee, fine pastries and a tempting breakfast menu. Here, guests can enjoy high-quality wines and sparkling drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. Wallner emphasizes that the drinks menu at George has been carefully curated to complement the dining experience.

However, both restaurants face some challenges at their location: the narrow paths and an elevator that only holds five people have to be taken into account every time they visit. Nevertheless, the opening of “Marie” and “George” could noticeably increase the city’s gastronomic pulse and strengthen the focus on sustainability and individuality in the gastronomic sector.
