30 km/h at night: peace for Feldkirchen-Westerham!
From now on, a nighttime speed limit of 30 km/h applies on state road 2078 through Feldkirchen-Westerham. The corresponding signs were put up on August 12, 2025 after the Rosenheim district office approved the traffic regulations on July 11 of this year. This measure is intended to help protect residents' night's sleep and improve the quality of life in the region Radio Charivari reported.
The regulation comes into force between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and only means a minimal increase in travel time of a few seconds for drivers. The application to introduce this nighttime speed limit was submitted on November 9, 2022, with the aim of reducing noise pollution at night. To do this, a comprehensive procedure with several noise protection reports had to be carried out, which was delayed due to new findings, as the municipality states on its website Feldkirchen-Westerham explained.
Background and advantages
The introduction of the 30 km/h speed limit is not only a simplification of traffic, but also a sign of noise protection and part of the municipality's Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK). It aims to make life noticeably more pleasant for residents by significantly reducing nighttime noise. Less noise contributes to better sleep and therefore better health and quality of life.
Although this regulation only applies in urban areas and not on interurban roads such as State Road 2078, it is a step in the right direction for a better quality of life in residential areas. 30 km/h zones are intended in residential areas and must meet strict requirements, such as STVO2GO explained. Local authorities are expected to continue to plan measures to ease traffic congestion, including the creation of additional 30 km/h zones during the day and possible measures against motorway avoidance traffic.
These new regulations are an essential part of the future transport policy in Feldkirchen-Westerham and show that the administration has a good knack for making improvements that benefit everyone. Residents are invited to share their perceptions and experiences with the new regulation in order to further advance the development.
