Emergency services train an emergency: big exercise in the original driving environment!
The most recent major exercise of the emergency services in the Urfahr-Umfahrt district, known under the title "Gemsig 25", took place on 30 and May 31, 2025 and attracted over 300 participants. More than 70 emergency services from the Red Cross Urfahr-Umgeben showed impressively how well they are prepared for the emergency. They received support from the rapid deployment group of the Red Cross Rohrbach, the Samaritan Association Feldkirchen, the search dog squadron, as well as from the fire brigade and police. According to
different exercise scenarios
The organizers simulated three specific areas of application that offered a wide range of challenges. The emergency services had to cope with a traffic accident with a fully occupied coach in the first scenario. This not only put the routine work in emergency medicine to the test, but also the coordination of the various emergency services. The second scenario addressed an escalating buzzing that culminated in a terrorist-AMOK-Geiseln-taking-particularly quick action and effective communication was necessary here. Finally, there was a landslide in the third scenario in which several people and vehicles were spilled. Such exercises such as “Gemsig 25” are essential to optimally prepare the emergency services for real emergencies.
a strong sense of community
The participants were housed in a base camp in Reichenau. The meals sponsored by the catering Jenner contributed to strengthening the feeling of community and giving the emergency services a good basis. The organizers Daniel and Matthias Rechberger report a positive conclusion of the exercise, in which the importance of regular, realistic training was emphasized. The focus here was on concentration, coordination and the professional interaction of the various organizations so that they run like clockwork in an emergency
The importance of disaster protection exercises
emergency services know that disasters such as flooding or heavy rain are not just theoretical risks. They can have a significant impact on the infrastructure and the population. It is therefore important that everyone involved in disaster management is well trained. As the disaster protection academy , both organizational and operational skills must be practiced in the event of a crisis. Successful disaster management presupposes that the right priorities are set and the authorities work closely together.
The future looks promising, but also challenging. Participation in further training courses, such as the "Catastrophic Manager" certificate course, will help the emergency services to be even better equipped - also for the unpredictable challenges that nature and human action can bring. The city and the participants of “Gemsig 25” impressively show that you are prepared for everything with team spirit and good training.
