Karolyi-Ensbacher: Pioneering work for women in crafts in Neusiedl!

A new chapter has begun for the traditional installation company Karolyi in Neusiedl am See. Kristin Karolyi-Ensbacher, the first woman in a management position at her father's company, has taken over the helm since July 2023. At 37, she not only has an academic education, but also many years of experience in the company, which employs 15 people, including two apprentices. Their goal is to continue the existing concept, which specializes in bathroom renovations, and in particular to inspire more female apprentices for men's jobs. However, her search for female trainees has so far been unsuccessful, a situation that she urgently wants to change in order to counteract the underrepresentation of women in many skilled trades.

Kristin grew up in the family business and gradually took on responsibility while studying business. She completed her craft training with an exceptional apprenticeship qualification and master's examinations in heating as well as gas and water. Interestingly, she has rarely had to contend with gender stereotypes in her career, although she was once underestimated by a teacher in a heating technology class - a class made up almost entirely of men. This shows how important mutual appreciation is in the work environment. Today she is recognized as a boss by her male-dominated workforce.

Women in the trades – a growing trend
