70 years of Marienkron monastery: spirituality and healing combined!

Mönchhof, Burgenland, Österreich - In 2025 the Marienkron in Mönchhof. Founded on August 15, 1955 by six sisters from the Seligenthal Abbey in Bavaria, the monastery has developed into an important spiritual center that is estimated not only in the region, but far beyond.

The foundation of the monastery falls into a time of great political uncertainty, near the Iron Curtain. While these circumstances were a major challenge, it was precisely the longing for peace and reconciliation that strengthened the sisters. The monastery building was completed as early as 1957/58, and on November 7, 1958, Bishop Stephan László solemnly consecrated.

Marienkron monastery serves not only as a place of faith, but also as a center for health. In 1969 the Kurhaus Marienkron , which was modernized in 2019 and reopened as the "Center for Darm and Health". This facility integrates spirituality, health and science and attracts guests from home and abroad who are looking for healing.

The monastery that is directly affiliated to the Cistercian order has supported itself with various economic activities over the decades. From chicken breeding to the management of agricultural areas - the sisters have always demonstrated a good knack for sustainable activities. From 1969 the guest accommodation became an important economic pillar, and a modern convent building was inaugurated around the spa park in 2014.
