Lakemania 2025: Record participation for Lake Neusiedler and climate protection!

In an impressive demonstration for environmental protection and the importance of the Neusiedler See, the 17. the event "Lakemania - Ahoi Neusiedler See" takes place until May 19, 2024. This action is not only a festival for paddle and rowing enthusiasts, but also an important step to draw attention to the effects of climate change. In the last edition 2023, a participant record with around 330 registrations was set up, compared to only 30 boats in the first year 2022, such as meinzirk.at .

The event will be held in the Rust seaside resort for the first time this year. Deputy Governor Anja Haider-Wallner underlines the urgency to point out the climatic changes in the UNESCO World Heritage Region Fertö Neusiedler See. This region is not only known for its impressive landscapes, but is also increasingly at risk from the global climate changes.

a versatile program for everyone

Lakemania 2024 promises a varied program: from lectures to master classes to a small boat and outdoor testing, which brings numerous manufacturers and providers from Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Wales and Austria together. On Friday evening, the lectures in the Seehof Rust start with respected speakers, including the world heritage director DI Lina Karner and the British kayak master Nigel Dennis.

The small boat & outdoor testival will be opened on Saturday, while the participants can enjoy championships and workshops. For the first time, visitors can also experience the dragon boat challenge, which will take place on Sunday. The event is free of charge, but a preliminary registration is required for the start package and especially for the paid master classes with Nigel Dennis.

a focus on climate protection

based on the recently enacted amended climatic strategy of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, Lakemania is not only used as a sports event, but also as a platform for climate awareness. The UNESCO general assembly recently passed measures that aim to better protect the cultural and natural heritage from the consequences of climate change by 2030. In this context, Lakemania is made a critical contribution to emphasize responsibility for the preservation of our environment.

Overall, the event attracts kayak experts and nature lovers from all over the world, and Peter Nicolai, who also leads Seekajak Master classes, will highlight the relevance of Lake Neusiedler as the ideal entry-level area for those interested in kayak.

The commitment to the future of Lake Neusiedler and for the awareness of climate change are central concerns of Lakemania. The more people agree, the more voices are perceived for the preservation of our environment.
