Austrian Children's and Youth Book Prize 2025: The winners have been determined!

The Austrian Children's and Youth Book Prize was awarded on May 31, 2025 in the Eisenstadt cultural center. This year, the jury members made up for four outstanding works from 130 new publications submitted. The price, which has been awarded by the Republic of Austria annually since 1955, not only brings recognition for talented authors, but also rewards the artistic work of illustrators and translators.

The happy award winners can look forward to 6,000 euros each. Daniela Winkler, state councilor and patron of the event, described the award as a real seal of approval for literary quality. The competition is aimed at books by Austrian publishers or those that appear in non -Austrian publishers with Austrian authors, which is recognized by the diversity of the publications.

a price with tradition

The Austrian Children's and Youth Book Prize has established itself as an important institution in the Austrian literary scene over the decades. Not only to name excellent works, but also to promote them in the school framework, is a central component of the price. The winners take part in readings and workshops in schools, which are organized by the Mattersburg Literature House. This is done with the intention of inspiring children and adolescents for reading and promoting their own creativity.

It becomes particularly exciting when a school class is co -determined when choosing the youth prize. This year the 1A of the Eco Middle School Anton-Baumgartner-Straße from Vienna selected its favorite book under the submitted titles. The youth prize impressively shows how important it is that young readers are included in the process of literature award.
