Fee-money scandal: Burgenländer acquitted despite confession!

In a remarkable case of fraud, a 46-year-old Serbian citizen in Eisenstadt has been acquitted of the accusation of severe fraud. In autumn 2017, the man took part in an alleged business with a Burgenland in Milan, which turned out to be a perfidious RIP deal. According to Kurier, the defendant was used as an interpreter in a sophisticated plan, around 500-euro notes on to exchange. The promised profit margin of 15 percent was tempting, but the deal dissolved in smoke when the Burgenland held only a real 500 euro note in his hands.

In the second meeting, where 30,000 euros changed owners, there was no good end to the victim: all other bills were counterfeit money. After the incident, a complaint was filed and an international arrest warrant against the suspects was issued, which ultimately led to the arrest of one of the accomplices in Spain. The accused admitted that he was involved in the deal under the pressure of play debts of 2,000 euros, but denies that he had played an active role when the counterfeit money was handed over. He confessed that he had acted as a translator for only 500 euros and expressed his regrets by apologizing to the victim.

legal situation and acquittal

Despite his confession, there was no conviction because the 2017 crime was time -barred this year. The indictment points on falsification of money and criminal membership could also not be proven sufficiently. However, the public prosecutor is now examining the possibility of making an acquisition against the acquisition, such as vienna.at reports.

Although the acquittal is currently not final, it is clear that such frauds are not common in today's world, and yet they require an extensive legal discussion. Interestingly, there is an increase in xenophobic crimes in the current crime situation in Austria, while the overall registered politically motivated acts have dropped in 2022, as from the numbers [of Dubisthalle] (https://dubisthalle.de/politic-otivated-kriminalitaet-2022-rueckgang-der-overallfalls-aber-antege-der-der-anti-punitive crime).

It remains to be seen whether the judiciary will determine again in this special case. However, the entire incident raises questions about the methods with which criminal organizations are trying to even infiltrate commercial business to get quick money. In any case, the citizens should remain vigilant and choose their businesses carefully.
