Bishop Zsifkovics calls Burgenländer for charity!

What's going on in Eisenstadt? In the diocese of Eisenstadt, everything is currently about Bishop Aegidius J. Zsifkovics, who not only acts as the spiritual head, but also as an active advocate for social issues in the region. Born on April 16, 1963 in Güssing, Zsifkovics has moved a lot since his appointment as a bishop in 2010. Growing up in his homeland and bilingual in German and Croatian, he was involved in various pastoral and social positions early on. In addition to his theological studies in Vienna and Zagreb, he dominates several languages, including Italian and English, and has knowledge of Hungarian as well as Latin and ancient Greek.

A special concern of the bishop is to hold the community together and respond to the needs of people. "We can't just watch people fall by the wayside," he emphasizes, recently asking the Burgenländer for solidarity. The occasion of his dramatic call is the upcoming Martinifest on November 11th. Zsifkovics calls for the faithful to participate in the "Window for Freieend" aid campaign, which is aimed at people in Ukraine who suffer from the adverse conditions of winter. "Don't let us look away, but actively help," continued Zsifkovics. This commitment is also evident in his endeavor to inspire people to support mutual support by addressing gratitude and attention as ways to grow beyond themselves. "We have to be vagabonds between God and people," he says, to clarify how important it is to build bridges.

a festival with purpose

The Martinifest, to which Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich is expected as a guest of honor, offers a perfect opportunity to draw attention to these important topics. The festival fair begins on November 11th at 9 a.m. in the cathedral of Eisenstadt, and on the evening before at 6 p.m. there is a Byzantine snack that is dedicated to peace in Ukraine. Not only is faith kept alive, but also a concrete contribution is made: with a call for donations for the people threatened by the winter in Charkiw, a sign of solidarity is clearly set. The donation information is: Caritas of the Diocese of Eisenstadt, Iban: AT34 3300 0000 0652, bic: rlbbat2e, purpose: MartinStat Winterhilfe.

Bishop Zsifkovics also addresses the challenges that the church faces, such as the problems of war, inflation and climate change. This situation leads to a noticeable fatigue among many believers, but the bishop exhorts: "World flight cannot be the solution." The synodal process in the church, he explains, gives us the chance to reflect together and to design the way into the future. In this regard, Zsifkovics also criticizes that many of the tasks that result from the second Vatican Council were still inadequate in the Diocese of Eisenstadt. His clear call to solidarity and action shows that he wants to change - both in the church and in society.

With his tireless efforts and strong words, Zsifkovics conveyed a clear message: "Together for a better future". It is to be hoped that many Burgenlanders will follow his invitation and actively participate in the support of the needy. Together we can achieve a lot - the bishop puts on this and encourages everyone to become part of this important initiative. For more information about Bishop Egidius J.
